Sweet Tannenbaum Socks

Hi friends! How have you been?

I didn’t mean to neglect my blog (yet again), but ever since my pup, Momiji, passed away, I just haven’t been feeling like actively posting things on social media.

But I’m still here!

I’ve actually been posting about books and games on the “sub-category-page” here and there. That section is all in Japanese as it takes a long time to write a post in two languages and sometimes I just need an outlet to let my thoughts out in my first language which I don’t get to use in my day-to-day life much; if Japanese is one of your languages, consider checking it out!

I finished these sock earlier this year (good thing I kept record on Ravelry), and have been wearing them lots since!

Yarn: Ancient Arts Yarns Socknado in Sweet Tannenbaum

The Socknado is Ancient Arts Yarns signature sock yarn and the Sweet Tannenbaum colourway was a part of their “12 Days of Christmas 2021”.

Here’s what they have to say about the colourway:

The first known Christmas tree was set up in 1419 in Freiburg by the town bakers, who decorated the tree with fruits, nuts, and baked goods, which the children were allowed to remove and eat on New Year’s Day. German Christmas trees are often put up and decorated on Christmas Eve, and it’s one of my favourite things to do for the winter holiday. I’ve always enjoyed collecting the odd little ornament here and there and I have a very few that have come down through the family and are over 100 years old! They’re nothing fancy but very much treasured for the family history they hold. We always put cookies on the Christmas tree when I was little and it was a contest between us and my mother as to how many we could steal from the tree before the big day and how many she could preserve. Stolen Christmas cookies are soooooo tasty!

I fell in love with this Instagram post by them, and knew I had to get a skein.

I can’t remember the original pattern I based off of—I’ve adjusted it to my size and my liking, and I just knit my socks accordingly to my own notes I’ve made a while ago.

It might have been the Vanilla Sock with Gusset & Choice of Heel by Jo Torr.

I’m a team toe-up!

I like Ancient Arts Yarns’ sock base (Socknado). It’s sturdy, soft, and thick all that same time and very pleasant to knit and wear.

This picture was taken by my phone (just this one, others were taken by my camera), so the colours were a bit off.

I have so many sock yarns in my stash, I hope I can finish a couple of pairs this season.
