Sage Green Floral Dress

Hi friends! Happy new year! May 2024 be a good one.

We just got out of a deep freeze phase where I live; it had been the daily high of minus 30 (celsius) with daily low of minus 40 for five days or so.

It gets minus 25-30 every season here, but minus 40 is quite cold for a Canadian urban climate! I’m glad to be out of that phase now (one finds a new appreciation for minus 25 after minus 40.)

This dress was finished a year ago… but I had taken photos of it then, so might as well share them here!

I’d love to post new-ish things too, but I’ve been feeling lazy to snap photos. I’m yet to set up a best/easy photo space in our (sort of) new place!

It’s a really cute dress, unfortunately though, I don’t love it.

I was initially planning on attaching a waist belt piece in between the bodice and the skirt with black piping trim around it (just like the collar.)

However, the black piping trim I made was too sturdy for the purpose which made the waist too bulky with zero drape.

I also think I made the waist placement too low with the belt, and didn’t like how it fitted.

So I decided to omit the belt and instead I added an elastic to the back waist and a black waist tie to give some shaping.

The dress ended up a lot different from what I originally imagined—and I’m not 100% convinced with the new design and the fit.

I think once I make up my mind to part with it, I’ll probably donate this dress.

That being said, I really like the contrast of the black piping trim against the sage green fabric!

I’m pretty happy with how the collar turned out as well.

Bodice pattern is based on my tried and true (with a lot of modifications):

Megan Nielsen’s Darling Ranges dress & blouse (The curve size which ranges from 14-30 is available too.) See my other Darling Ranges makes here.

The fabric is cotton poplin.

I like the base, so maybe I’ll give this idea another try sometime!
