Orange Leaf Dress: Myosotis

One of my friends told me once that after it hits the 10th of the month, it feels like that month is almost gone.

Because the 10th of the month is almost halfway through the month, and after that point, it feels as though the time goes by even faster, was her reasoning.

Funny enough, I think she is right.

I wanted to update my blog in February, but it’s already the middle of March.

Why is it that the time passes so quickly as you get older?

The last dress I shared was something I made a year ago; today I’m sharing a piece that is somewhat newer; I made it in the fall (or in the early winter) this past year.

I haven’t even shared what I made last spring/summer yet, but they’re put away in my closet at the moment, so hopefully I’ll get to it in summer.

The dress I’m writing about today is made with Myosotis Dress by Deer and Doe. This pattern has quickly become one of my favourites this winter!

Deer and Doe is a french based pattern company and you can choose your pattern in English or French upon purchasing (if I’m not mistaken.) I’ve used their Orchidée Dress pattern before and loved it. Myosotis Dress is another very popular pattern form them and I had been very excited to try it out!

The size range is 34 (body measurements: bust 81cm/waist 60cm/hip 86cm) to 60 (bust 147cm/waist 126cm/hip 152cm).

(↑Somehow the shape of the skirt looks wonky in these photos above. I think it’s because my dress form is so much smaller than my actual size that the clothes don’t sit properly. I need to get one of those proper sewing dress forms one day.)

The fabric I used is:

Vine Starling in Rayon from the Wild Forgotten collection by Art Gallery Fabrics (Rayon 100%)

I love Art Gallery Fabrics’ cottons and their rayon didn’t disappoint either! Since it is lightweight fabric, I added a lining (bemberg) to the skirt.

The colour of this fabric was a little tricky to capture, but I think I managed it. It’s a gorgeous subdued orange with a bit of brown.

I bought mine from Rick Rack Textiles last year.

The buttons are from Core Fabric and are made from recycled paper. I find that so neat; they don’t look (neither does it feel) like paper. They feel high quality; I’ve been washing in a machine but they’re perfectly intact, so I think they are pretty durable as well.

I added the thin waist tie at the back, thinking I may want to cinch in at the waist, but since I want it to be comfy when I sit down, I don’t tie it tightly. (Thus the shape of the waist is almost the same with or without the tie.) But either way, I think it adds a cute design feature at the back!

Other adjustments I made:

  • long sleeves

  • lengthened the skirt

  • raised the front opening

  • made the neck band lower

I used Closet Core Patterns Nicks Dress for the long sleeve pattern.

I like that this sleeve pattern has tucks at the wrist first, and then elastics are added to the cuff. By doing so, it reduces the bulk at the wrist which makes these sleeves even more comfortable to wear!

I’ve been using this sleeve pattern a lot this fall/winter.

I’m very pleased with this dress; the colour, the print, and the shape! It moves beautifully, it’s comfortable to wear, and I feel good wearing it!
