Eyelet Summer Cardigan
Summer here is almost over... the leaves on trees are getting yellow!
Just before summer ends, I finished knitting a summer cardigan. Cardigans made with cotton yarn are soft and not scratchy at all, I love them. They're perfect for cool summer days/nights.
Pattern: from a Japanese knitting book
Yarn: Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima Fine in Alaska Sky (3731)
I think this yarn is a really good affordable and practical cotton yarn that you could use for garments. It’s soft enough that it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a piece of paper, but not too delicate that you need to worry about being so careful to take care of it.
It doesn’t have much drape, but not too stiff either.
I knit mine shorter than the book suggests, and lengthened the sleeves.
The sleeves are knit continuously from the bodice, so there’s no setting in sleeves. I think I made the armholes too big though, the sleeves have some flares that I’m not sure about. But the roomy sleeves make it breezy and cool for summer, so I guess that’s okay.
I’ve been wanting to knit this little eyelet pattern for a while, so I’m happy I finally did it!
Instead of buttonholes, this cardigan has button loops made from the same yarn.
I find that the little eyelet patterns are tricky; they either look too child-like or too elegant. But there’s something about the eyelet patterns I like…
This one is on the casual side, so I’d love to pair it with simple and dark coloured dresses to balance that out.
