Denim Short Jacket
I've been hunting for a light-weight jacket that's perfect for spring and fall, maybe even a chilly summer night.
I haven't had the best luck, so I decided to make one! Also, this fall/winter's my sewing goal is to sew more outers, so this project was a good start to achieve that!
I found a pattern in one of my Japanese sewing magazine, 2010 fall issue which coincidentally is a coat and jacket issue!
This is the pattern I used. I wanted to make something that goes well with fit and flare dresses, so this short length jacket seemed like a good choice.
I used a light-weight soft denim. It might look like off-white but it’s more of a beige colour. I think the stand collar and the gathered bodice are really cute design feature of this pattern.
The back side is nice and simple.
Front band neatly hides the zipper underneath.
And it’s fully lined! The pattern didn’t call for any lining, but I like jackets that are fully lined. It makes so much easier to put on, and adds a little extra warmth.
Overall, I really like how this turned out. But I do wish it had pocket(s) somewhere! Maybe next time.
I love a stand collar as a design but it actually doesn’t feel so comfortable for my short neck…This might be something to adjust, if I were to make it again.
I’m so happy that this length goes so well with fit and flare dresses! This jacket is a really good replacement to a hoodie, if I want something a bit more chic.
RTW clothes almost always have sleeves that are too long for me. I don’t even remember if I ever owned any jackets/coats that properly fit on my arms. So this is such a great feeling that I can make something that is tailored for myself!
