Monet Socks

What do you like to knit/crochet during summer?

I sometimes make summer garments with cotton or linen blend but I mostly knit socks!

I just don’t feel like touching wool yarn during the hot weather season. I think you can count socks as a consumable items, even if you treat them with care, they still wear off fast. So I’m hoping to grow my hand-knit sock stash in summer!

I used Yarn Ink’s classic sock base in Monet colourway.

I spotted this yarn at a yarn event and when I first saw the colourway and its name, I had to get it!

I’m no fine art expert but I do like some of paintings of Claude Monet. The base colour is a super light and soft mint-ish blue with some neon speckles.

It’s a beautiful colourway, is easy to work with, and has a soft feel to it.

I think this sock base might be slightly (just ever so slightly) lighter weight than some other sock yarn I’ve worked with.

I used the same needle size as usual which is 2.25mm, and the same number of stitches (60 stitches cast on) and they came out a tad snug than usual. It’s not a problem as it’s still stretchy enough, but if you normally use sock yarns that are on heavier side, you might want to consider going up a size with needles or cast on a couple more stitches with this base.

I’ve been really liking using a simple pattern, especially when the colour of the yarn is so beautiful and delicate.

This time I used Susan B. Anderson’s How I Make My Socks pattern. This is a very classic sock pattern and if you’re looking for a simple free sock pattern, you should give this one a try! I love Susan B. Anderson’s patterns.

I casted on this pair a long time ago and was put on hold for a while, so I’m really happy to have them finished!
