Liberty Ros Dress: MN Darling Ranges

After I made the Chasing Daisies Dress and knew that the pattern works very nicely, I made something pretty special!

I made another Megan Nielsen Darling Ranges (The curve size: 14-30 is also available.) This time, with Liberty London Tana Lawn!

Pattern modifications:

I’ve done the same modifications as the Chasing Daisies dress, plus:

  • Shortened the bodice length by 1cm

  • Changed the tiered skirt length ratio by 7cm

The total skirt length is the same as the Chasing Daisies dress, but the bottom piece is longer this time (meaning the top skirt piece is shorter, naturally).

Tana Lawn from Liberty London needs no introduction, but in case you’ve never heard of it before, it is a high quality fabric made with ultra fine cotton and beautiful delicate prints.

It’s 100 % cotton but thanks to the ultra fine cotton, it has a slight sheen. It’s light weight; breezy to sew and wear.

It’s definitely expensive for cotton fabric, but once you feel the fabric and see the print up close, you would know why. It’s just that beautiful.

The print I chose is called “Ros” which features little flowers (maybe they’re pansies?), and comes in a several different colours.

Although red and navy colour combo isn’t something I would normally go for, I wanted to try something new and different; I’m glad I did! I really like this print in person even more, I love how it’s delicate yet dramatic at the same time.

I made fabric covered buttons to achieve a dressier look. The print is busy enough that the buttons are barely visible which I personally think it helps to give more dressy feel.

Just like the Chasing Daisies dress, this dress is also really comfortable to wear! It’s got pretty good range of motion too (which means I can move my arms without feeling constricted).

This dress was for a special occasion and that calls for a special bag to go with!

I’ve made a matching bag using Pisa Bow Bag PDF Sewing Pattern by Kate Eva Designs. I’ve written more about it on my “Liberty Ros Pisa Bow Bag” post.

Though this dress was made for an occasion, it can easily be dressed down with flat sandals or sneakers. As special as a Liberty fabric dress is, I also love it when I can get a lot of wear!

I've been enjoying the cute dress + comfy sneakers combo trend, I hope this trend stays for a long time!
