Japan 2016: Tokyo

Snoopy Museum Tokyo

We stay at my parents' house in Shizuoka-prefecture for the most of our stay, but we like to go visit Tokyo too!

This time we did a yarn crawl in Tokyo. Since I started working for my LYS, yarn shopping is on top of to-do list! :) I wrote a blog post about my yarn crawl in Tokyo on River City Yarns's blog (my LYS.)

Keito—Keito means wool thread (yarn) in Japanese. They specialize in imported special yarns.

Puppy—Puppy is a well-known Japanese yarn brand. They also carries a large selection of Rowan yarns.

Avril—This shop was quite unique! Almost every yarn they carry comes in a form of cones, instead of balls or skeins. You can buy them by meterage/weight.

Moorit—This shop had a lot of imported brands as well. It was so modern inside!

While we were in Tokyo, I got to see my "internet" friend, Ms. Keiko from Sweden! We've known each other through blog and Instagram for a few years now.

She's Japanese and lives in Sweden and she has her own sewing atelier. Her work is focused around Swedish vintage fabric, she makes beautiful clothing, pouches, earrings, etc. Check out her website!

Central Tokyo at night. When I used to live in Tokyo, I thought this city was too big and too busy for me. It is big and busy, but I really miss it. As it turned out, I liked living in a big city more than I knew at the time.

We also went to Tokyo Disneyland! It's been a while since we went there the last time. We were so excited to be there!

The day after we went to Disneyland, we went to another happy place (for me), Nippori Textile Town!

There are lots of unique small shops in this textile town. It could get a little overwhelming, so I recommend doing some research before going there!

After Nippori textile town, we headed to Tokyo Skytree. We've been to the top before (which was pretty cool!), so this time we just looked around the shops in the area.

Sumida Aquarium is located right beside (almost in the) Skytree. It's not a very big aquarium but everything was beautifully and well designed and exhibited.

The last day in Tokyo was also the last day of our stay in Japan.

Our flight didn't leave till evening, so we headed to Snoopy Museum Tokyo.

Snoopy and the Peanuts gang are very popular in Japan and I've been a fan since I was 7 years old.

This was also a cool museum and I really enjoyed it. Since the Peanuts gang is very dear to me, I got a bit emotional as I followed the foot steps of the comic and the characters.

Happiness is a warm puppy. One of my favourite saying!

Beautiful fall coloured trees at Ueno Park.

Our last meal in Japan was yummy Udon at Haneda Airport.

Going to Japan is a vacation but it's not just that. It's visiting my friends and family, it's visiting home that I grew up. It's reconnecting with all those people and things.

It's mostly happy but it also gives me some challenges too.

When I visit Japan, I realize how much I've gotten used to the way of living in Canada. That's a good thing, because the more I get used to it, the easier it gets to live in Canada.

But at the same time, I feel a little sad because I don't want to forget who I am, as a Japanese person. So whenever I go back to Japan, I need to do some identity rebuilding a little bit. But that's not a bad things either, isn't it? Maybe trips and vacations are supposed to be full of "getting lost" and "rediscovering yourself" ;)

When I come back, I get seriously homesick but having Momiji really helps the process.

Once I get on that plane back home, I just focus on the part that I get to see my puppy soon!

Momiji stays with our friends during our trips and we're so so grateful. We trust them completely and we feel so lucky to have such good and generous friends. Thank you!
