Grey Knit Coat
I knitted a jacket (coat) and I love how it turned out!
Yarn: Epic Yarn (910 Medium Grey) from River City Yarns (*Update May 2021: this colour is now called 910 Steel.)
Pattern: from a Japanese knitting book (photo below)
So this is the Japanese knitting book I used.
I fell in love with the stitch pattern that was used for the sweater! it's traditional aran pattern (tree of life stitch) but the rows together make it look like herringbone pattern!
The pattern in the book was a pull-over sweater, so I added button bands to have a front opening, lengthened, and added a hood.
Let me talk about this yarn a bit.
A lovely local yarn store called River City Yarns make this beautiful yarn, "Epic Yarn".
It's 100% virgin wool and super springy which is perfect for a bigger garment like a jacket because if the yarn is too heavy and drapey, the garment would stretch out with its own weight and lose its shape. But not with Epic Yarn. 100% wool makes it light, and the springy texture would bounce back even after a wash. Plus, it shows stitches really nicely!
It's not super soft, and some people with sensitive skin might find it itchy. But it is durable. So this yarn is perfect for jackets, aran knits, gansey sweaters etc that you want them to last. I'm hoping to wear my jacket for very long time!
Sleeves came out slightly too long for me, but over all I’m very pleased!
I wanted to wear this as a jacket, so I kept the shape pretty boxy and with plenty of ease.
Reinforced button. I like this method! You just crochet a small round part and use that as a reinforced button to attach on the back. What a smart idea!
