Floral Shift Dress: McCall's M6465

Have you seen my Squash-coloured floral dress featuring the gorgeous viscose poplin I got from Blackbird Fabrics? I love this fabric so much that I couldn't just pick one colour to buy, so I also bought it in black too.

With the black one, I wanted to make a really simple dress. So I went for McCall's M6465.

M6465 is a simple, loose fitting pull-over dress with french darts. I like how it has enough ease but not baggy! This time I went with version D.

I'm so in love with this fabric and print... I'm not the one to choose pink normally, but the pink, red and black combo was too pretty to pass. I'm excited that I made something a bit different from what I already have in my closet!

It looks flowy but not overly loose. It just has enough ease.

I probably would attach a back zipper if I use heavier weight of fabric or if the fabric is more stiff. It’ll make it easier to put it on and off.

I also could have narrowed the shoulder width a bit more, but overall I like the fit.

This fabric is currently out of stock at Blackbird Fabrics, but I think they're getting them restocked in the future. When they do, it'll be hard to resist from buying another colour...!

I first planned to line this dress, but instead I made a slip since I didn’t own one and thought that it would be really useful for other dresses too. The pattern for the slip I used is M6883, version D. I've been wanting to make M6883 too but haven't found the right fabric for it.

Cherry blossoms were in full bloom over the weekend in many places in Japan, I enjoyed seeing pretty photos on social media. Here in Canada, it snowed yesterday morning… It turned into rain in the afternoon, but spring hasn't quite sprung just yet!
