Capri Lemon Ashton Top

Hello friends! This summer is going away so quickly…

I can’t believe August is almost over, but, we’ve been having a pretty hot August, so I can’t wait for cool fall to arrive.

If you’ve been around for a while, you probably know that I like textile from Art Gallery Fabrics! In the spring, they released a new collection called Capri.

Capri collection features beautiful scenery of Capri and Amalfi coast, painted with beautiful blues, yellows, and of course lots of lemons.

I loved this collection so much, there were so many prints I wanted to get, but I somehow managed to narrowed it down to two prints.

One of which is “Capri Toile” in rayon.

Mint blue of toile de Jouy style print with lemon on rayon base is so pretty; I knew it would be perfect for a summery, flowy top.

Fabric: Capri Toile in rayon, purchased from Thread Count Fabrics

Pattern: Ashton Top by Helen’s Closet Patterns with sleeves

I knew right away that I wanted to make a peplum top with this fabric.

I really liked the high and low peplum skirt design of the Indigo Top (by Tilly and the Buttons). However, I always have to make more adjustments to the bodice pieces whenever I use Tilly and the Buttons patterns. (I think their patterns are drafted for pear shaped folks, maybe?)

So for the bodice, I used the Ashton Top from Helen’s Closet Patterns, paired with the Indigo skirt pieces.

Ashton Top is originally sleeveless, but luckily they have a sleeves expansion pack!

I went with butterfly sleeves which are slightly flared short sleeves. They look pretty and really great for summer as they are a lot more breezy than regular short sleeves.

I quite like Ashton’s butterfly sleeves, they are not over the top, they have just the right amount of flares.

In addition to making it a peplum top, I changed the front neck opening to the V-shape. I’m really into shallow V-shaped necklines these days!

This lovely lemon crocheted bag was a gift from my IG friend, Maiko (@rutovihhie3). She’s so talented!

I actually made this top in June and have already worn a few times this summer. It’s light, airy, and breezy, everything I want in a summery top!
