Amalfi Darling Ranges Dress

If you haven’t heard yet… we’ve just moved into a new place!

I really dislike (neither am I good at) packing, so it has been somewhat stressful and overwhelming couple of weeks. But we’re finally settling in!

When I shared my Capri Lemon Ashton Top, I talked a little bit about Art Gallery Fabrics’ collection, Capri.

This is the other print I got from that collection!

Isn’t it dreamy? This print is called “Costiera Amalfitana” and is 100% cotton (quilting cotton).

I don’t normally go for pinks, but this one I was really drawn to. I just can’t pass up a good scenic print!

Fabric: Costiera Amalfitana (100% cotton) by Art Gallery Fabrics from their Capri Collection, purchased from Thread Count Fabrics

Pattern: Darling Ranges dress & blouse by Megan Nielsen Patterns (The curve size: 14-30 is also available.)

Buttons: Agoya Shell Buttons (17.5 mm) from Core Fabrics

Pattern modifications

I love the v-shaped neck opening design of the Darling Rages, but this time I modified it to a square neck to try something different. (Just in the front, I left the back as is.)

And because of this square neck hack, I also changed the finishing of the neckline. I simply opted for facings!

Unlike my previous Darling Ranges (like this Daisy print one and Liberty print one) which had thin waist ties that go around the waist, I did the back tie this time. (This back tie is the original design of the pattern!)

The reason why I went with the thin waist ties before was that I wanted to make them look a little more dressy and I think that worked out nicely. But this time, I wanted to try the original design which I think is super cute!

As it turned out, I actually like this original back tie even more!

It adds a nice interest to the back, less fabric is required than a long waist tie, and I don’t have to undo it every time I change!

The thin waist tie isn’t very good for keeping the waist cinched in, but this back tie does it very well! You can easily customize the fit of your bodice; whether it’s more relaxed or more fitted.

Since the ties are added to the back (and not inserted into the side seams), you can see where they are sewed on. This probably won’t go with a dressy style, but it looks pretty cute on casual dresses.

I used the shell buttons on this dress which I thought would go nicely with this summery fabric!

I wanted to keep this dress simple so that the print really stands out. For that reason I didn’t add any tiered skirt pieces.

In these photos, I’m tying the back ties not too tightly, just enough to give it a shape; it’s still really comfortable to move around in. I really love the fit of this pattern and will continue to make more in the fall!

The print of this fabric is so beautiful. I’ve never been to Capri island nor Amalfi coast, but would love to visit one day. For now, this dress would help me feel like I’m on a vacation!
