Watermelon Socks

Hi everyone! I can't believe it's already March. In January, the weather news said the winter was only 40% over in Canada at the time, I wonder how much winter left to go now.

But, the sun stays way longer these days and it is getting warmer and you know what that means. I have to get as much knitting done as possible before the warmer weather is here.

I started knitting socks last year and I've been really liking it! I recently finished two pairs of socks.

Yarn: Bis-Sock in Watermelon by Biscotte Yarns

Pattern: Smooth Operator Socks by Susan B. Anderson

Smooth Operator Socks patterns is knit top-down (cuff-down) with afterthought heels.

This colourway is brighter than I thought, but it's really cute.

The yarn contains 85% merino, 15% nylon but you'd think it was a cashmere blend, it's that soft!

This pattern is so popular, I don't need to even mention how great it is. Susan B. Anderson constantly updates and adds new techniques to it too, isn't that great?

I've adjusted numbers of cast on and decreases of toes and heels to fit my feet.

I actually bought two skeins of this yarn because I wanted to make a pair for my sister too (which I already did!) And with those two skeins, I was able to make two pairs of regular length socks and a pair of ankle socks.

The pattern I used for the ankle socks is Simple Ankle Socks by Heidi Braacx. Simple Ankle Socks is knit top-down with heel gusset and flap.

Our place is pretty warm all through winter, due to the heating system we have to keep it to the certain temperature (otherwise the pipe would freeze.) So I'm actually really enjoying wearing ankle socks at home.

I have a feeling that the heel gusset and flap fits me better than afterthought heels, but I haven't made enough to know for sure. I do still like the afterthought heels and I don't have any problem with them, so I'd still use that method too.

After making three pairs of socks (with two skeins), I still have a bit left over. Yay!
