Sasha Trousers

Hello friends! September went by so quickly…Fall is my favourite season and I wish the time slowed down a bit during fall.

We already had our first snow (although our area didn’t get much at all compared to some other cities!)

I think it was the beginning of this year when Closet Core Patterns released Sasha Trousers pattern (the link takes you to the PDF version of the pattern but they sell printed version as well.)

In the past couple of years, I’ve been really enjoying learning to sew pants, so I bought Sasha Trouser pattern right away.

Now, I’m sharing three pairs today but I didn’t make them all at once! I made my first pair back in February, another in May or so, and the third pair in June or July.

My first pair was this black ponte knit ones.

I don’t think ponte knit is included in their recommended fabric list, but as long as they’re the right weight and not too stretchy, I think they work perfectly.

In fact, my ponte knit Sasha trousers are the comfiest pants I own.

I used tiny polka dot fabric as pockets! Just like their Ginger Jeans, Sasha features pocket stay. Pocket stay is an extended pocket that is connected all the way to the zipper fly.

It’s tummy slimming and prevents pockets from wrinkling up in your pant legs, so you don’t have to straighten them up every time you put the pants on.

I think it also helps fabric not to stretch over time, so it keeps its shape better, especially when you use knit fabric like I did. Pocket stays are awesome and I love them.

My second pair is also made from ponte knit in grey. This fabric is actually a left over from another project.

These and the black ones are basically the same but in different colours. They’re that comfortable! I could own these in every colour.

The third pair is made out of stretchy cotton sateen from Japan.

It has enough stretch though, I have a feeling this fabric might have been a tad too light weight for this pattern.

I found that choosing right fabric for making pants is sometime challenging!

There’re a lot to consider: Does it have enough stretch (if the pattern calls for stretchy fabric) but not too stretchy? Does it have the right weight? Is it opaque enough? etc.

I think denim is easier to find the right kind, but I have yet to figure out the perfect fabric for non-denim trousers. (Maybe I should just make all my Sasha in ponte knit, haha!)

Sasha trousers actually have welt back pockets that are very stylish!

I was a bit lazy (I’m not a huge fun of the welt pocket process) and felt like patch pockets might cover my imperfections better, so I made patch pockets instead.

Always choose the polka dot fabric for lining whenever I can, is my motto. Because, look how pretty!

It was tricky to capture the true colour of this cotton sateen, but it’s brown-green shade like khaki. I bought it online and was hoping it would be more green but it’s actually quite brown. That is totally fine because light brown pants are pretty versatile, but I would also love to have some deep green pants!

(The lemon T-shit details can be found here, my ankle strap socks are shared here.)

I’ve been wearing them so much since I’ve made them, especially the black ones. I don’t work in an office but if you did, I think they’d be great work pants too!
