Floral dress with Rifle Paper Co.

Rifle Paper Co. and Cotton + Steel have made fabrics together! I was so excited when they first announced it earlier this year (as every other sewing person I'm sure.)

I got two kinds of prints from their Les Fleurs collection. They're both cotton—I think they're quilting weight cotton—but it feels like they're slightly lighter than regular quilting cotton. The fabric is really smooth and has a bit more drape. Perfect for dress making.

The iconic Rifle Paper Co. floral print had to become a fit and flare dress, of course! I’m so glad I was able to buy this one in this colour (blue is my favourite colour.)

Pattern: Simplicity 1873 Cynthia Rowley Collection

Pattern Alterations and Adjustments: Nothing major, some small adjustments such as

  • The depth of neck opening

  • The length of shoulder

  • Width of bodice

  • Sway back adjustment

I've also added in-seam side pockets and gathered the skirt.

This time I tried to remove gaping from neckline using a method that was shared on bernie and I. It worked pretty well! Yay for talented sewing bloggers who are very kind to share helpful tips!

It goes perfectly with my Kate Spade white flower necklace. Love love love.

Floral dress with Rifle Paper Co. print fabric

So now I know how great their fabric is, I think I'm going to buy a little bit more from their second collection which will be out in spring (in March I think)!

Their next theme is (drum roll...) Wonderland! As in Alice in Wonderland, how amazing is that?!

March is still far away but maybe that's good because I'll need enough time to save some money, haha. I might get some rayon and lawn this time besides cotton. Decisions, decisions...

Have you sewn anything with Rifle Paper Co. fabric? Or are you going to? Let me know!
