Peter Pan Collar Dress: Butterick B6409

When I bought this fabric while ago in Japan, I was inspired by a button up dress made with a similar fabric that I saw on internet.

So I thought I would make a shirt dress with this fabric.

But then when I actually started going through patterns, I realized that with a shirt dress, I'd need to do a lot of pattern matching, and just that thought itself almost gave me a headache :P

So I decided to make a pull-over dress with a collar instead!

I chose Butterick B6409 as a base. I used view C for the sleeves and the view D for the hem. I initially bought this pattern for viscose and rayon fabric but it also works well with double gauze.

I borrowed the collar pattern from “Scalloped top” pattern.

While I think this french bull dog pattern is really cute, it's a double gauze, so combined with the design of the B6409 (long sleeves and a collar), I was afraid it would look too much like Pjs.

That's when I thought of using a contrasting coloured fabric for the collar and the cuffs. I've always wanted to make a dress like that! I picked a black lawn as a contrasting fabric.

I'm really happy with how it turned out! I think I'm in love! B6409 was easy to put together, comfortable to wear, and I like how well it goes with the peter pan collar pattern I used.

The tear drop shaped back opening was a lot more successful this time than the last time :)

Love these details... I think I'll make another dress using the same pattern again!

The only thing I would change in the future is I would shorten the sleeves a bit. I knew they were going to be a tad long on me, but I kept them as they were hoping that they'd look like bishop sleeves. But they didn't have enough fullness to be bishop sleeves, so next time I'll just shorten them a bit.

Over all, I really love it! The elastic waist and the double gauze fabric are pretty casual but the collar and the cuffs make it look really proper!
