Canadian Rockies -Jasper- 2012

We love going to the Canadian Rockies—and when I say “we”, it includes Momiji (our pup) too!

We usually drive to either Banff or Jasper, this time we were headed to Jasper!

We stayed at this cozy cabin/lodge!

We didn’t have an early start on day 1, so we went for an evening walk around the cabin after we arrived.

On the second day, we headed for Mount Edith Cavell, but unfortunately it was closed. So we changed our plans and drove towards Maligne Lake.

Quick stop at Medicine Lake.

Maligne Lake! It was a beautiful lake…so much deep blues. We were doing a short walk along the lake when we spotted a moose for the first time in my life! I was so so excited.

You don’t see moose in Japan (where I’m originally from.) So I didn’t really know about them until I moved to Canada. When I first saw a photo of moose, I quickly fell in love. They’re beautiful!

I had longed for this moment about six years…and it was finally happening!

He was just as beautiful, majestic, and cute, if not more!

I was too excited to pay enough attention to the camera setting which I regret now, but I’m glad I did manage to get some shots.

We kept our distance (I had a pretty good zoom lens), tried our best not to make any sudden moves nor loud noises. Alerting moose is the last thing we want!

Encountering this moose was definitely my highlight of the trip. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this moment.

He seemed like he was used to seeing people around. He took his time to finish eating plants and eventually went back to the forest.

My excitement didn’t wear out too quickly, I think I was talking to my husband (who has also there with me) about it often during and well after the trip!

After we went back to the town of Jasper and had dinner, we went to Old Fort Point (along Athabasca River.)

We watched the sunset here, and it was the most beautiful blue moment. (Blue moment is a short time of period that happens after the sunset, right before it gets completely dark.)

We also watched the starry sky later that night, around midnight. Jasper is one of the largest dark sky preserves apparently, and this Old Fort Point was perfect! It was pitch black though, so we were cautious and watched the sky from the sunroof of the car.

On the last day, we took a small hike at Maligne Canyon.

The water was beautiful and clear, but Momiji was scared of the noise from the waterfall.

She did enjoy the hike as long as she didn’t hear the waterfall sound though! She loves being outdoor, although she is busy sniffing the ground most of the time, never care the scenery!

And that’s a wrap! We were headed back home.
