Floral Button Front Roscoe
After I made a sage colour button front Roscoe, I wanted to make another one with cotton lawn!
The sage colour one was made with viscose twill which is pretty drapey. I love how that one turned out, but since Roscoe pattern has plenty of gathering, I wanted to try with fabric that would give a little more volume.
Although I usually stay away from any styles with “volume”, something was telling me Roscoe would look super cute!
Fabric
Cotton lawn from Blackbird Fabrics with soft red-orange flowers. It’s got some retro vibe; I love this print.
It’s sold out now (they’ve restocked this fabric a couple times in the past, so maybe check with them if they’ll restock it again!); it was called “Ditsy Floral Cotton Lawn - White/Rose”.
Because it’s cotton lawn, it is lightweight and soft but has some crispness at the same time. It’s not stiff at all, but there’s enough crispness to give nice fullness to the gathered design.
Just like any other cotton lawns I’ve sewn before, it was a breeze to sew.
Pattern
Roscoe Blouse & Dress by True Bias is an oversized top/dress with gathered neckline.
Pattern Modifications
Roscoe pattern doesn’t have a button front design option, but it seems like it’s a popular hack! I referenced an article by Tessuti. You can also read more about how I modified it on my “Button Front Roscoe in Sage” post.
In addition to these modifications,
I raised the front neck slightly
I sized down in some places
Shortened the sleeves further
This time the sleeve length came out at exactly where I wanted them to be!
The sage fabric and this floral lawn are both lightweight yet behave very differently; the sage one has way more drape, while this lawn has made the gathered fabric more puffy.
I like it both a lot, but I’m especially in love with this one for spring!
The pants I'm wearing in these photos above are "Olive Free Range Slacks".
