Fjord Socks

It’s been a while since I last completed a knitting project…This past spring/summer had been all about sewing for me.

Now that we have some snow on the ground, I’m enjoying knitting once again!

The first knitting project of the season was socks for my husband. He actually picked out this yarn; it’s Pro Lana Yarns Fjord Sock (colour 184 / Blue).

This is a self-striping yarn that creates a fair-isle style pattern without doing any colourwork!

I don’t really have a pattern that I used, the number of stitches are adjusted to fit my husband’s feet. But the closest pattern available out there would be the Vanilla Sock with Gusset & Choice of Heel by Jo Torr. I think I used this pattern as reference long time ago.

If you don’t know already, I’m a team toe-up socks! I’ve tried knitting socks cuff-down before, but I prefer knitting toe-up a lot more.

When I first started knitting socks, I was experimenting with both methods. But some one in the knitting community had told me “eventually you’d find your favourite way. Liking both methods just the same isn’t a thing!”

She was a nice lady and was joking (or half joking, or maybe not joking at all) , but it was true enough, at least for me. I think about that sometimes and makes me chuckle.

I’m happy how the fair-isle style pattern came out almost symmetric! I love using self-striping yarn, it always keeps it interesting to knit a simple pattern.
