Driftless Cardigan

I actually made this cardigan in February or March, so I’m really happy that I’m finally writing about it!

I made it for my trip to Japan in April. I wanted something light, something easy to wear, something that goes with everything, made with wrinkle-free fabric.

I decided to use one of my favourite types of fabric, ponte knit, since the weight was perfect for what I wanted. I also like that ponte knit doesn’t easily wrinkle.

For the pattern, I picked Driftless Cardigan from Grainline Studio. They suggest medium weight knit fabric. Ponte is slightly heavier than what they suggest, but I think it worked well. I did sized up though, so that I can wear long sleeves underneath comfortably. I also lengthened the hem.

I had never made this type of pockets before; I was amazed at how clever the construction was! It was pretty neat.

If you’re lengthening the hem like I did, be sure to compensate the pocket pattern pieces as well!

I like the design of this pattern—dropped shoulder, binding finish, it’s so easy to throw it on and you’re good to go. I’ve been wearing this so much ever since.

I wear this one as a coatigan (coat + cardigan = light jacket), but I’d really love to make another one with lighter fabric like the pattern suggests, and wear it as a regular cardigan!

It’s been a while since I made this and my memory (of the process of making this) isn’t so fresh anymore. This is all I can remember to write today, but I can tell you that I love it so much! I’m so glad I made it. Another great pattern from Grainline Studio.
